Ladies and Gentlemen,
Introducing Australia’s first Adam retort Biochar Kiln….it is nearly complete
after today’s huge effort by the Biochar Industries team Kunghur NSW.
Update from our previous post Adam Retort . We did a colossal day on the tools today resulting in a big boost for our morale.
To make the occasion even more special Biochar Expert Dr Paul Taylor PhD was on hand to break this amazing news.
“This is the first Adam Retort in Australia and it will be the first commercial Adam retort in the western world” Said Dr Paul Taylor PhD Author and Editor of the Book The Biochar Revolution. This statement had Charmaster Dolph Cooke falling off his chair.
“I knew I was working hard to get the Biochar Industries and education centre up and running but I never realised I was creating history at the same time”
Dr Paul Taylor Phd is the sole licensee for the Adam retort Biochar kilns in Australia. He used his research skills to improve on the award winning design and has spent six month’s on this project. The result is a bigger, leaner and stronger model that will outlast the hardiest Charmaster : )
Here are a few pictures of today’s efforts and I would like to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly thank those quiet achievers on my team who have helped me get further than I had imagined and who will be by my side for a long time to come. I thank you.
Some facts about the Adam Retort Biochar Kiln :
Capacity 1tonne to 1.5 tonne Biomass
Output 300kgs – 500kgs of Biochar
Cycle approximately 8 hours
Efficiency 50kgs of wood can pyrolyse 1.5 tonne through self heating mechanisms. 30:1 ratio

for mother earth
We are going to throw a Mother Earth of a Party on opening Night stay tuned for an update.
I am also going to organise a charmasters apprenticeship sign up day for those who want to run any of the biochar machines at Biochar Industries with a view to employment once they become Charmasters : )
Hi Dolph, Received your mail with advice, what can I say …… Fantastic, that’s the retort, the website and the bloke. MASSIVE thanks! Shame Oz is so far from BG, I would’ve certainly been there on sign-up night, to see ‘EVE’ boot-up and the master at work. You’ll have to go global fella …. put Bulgaria on the list. Thanks for your effort mate, it’s inspiring. Dave
I will take your advice and get a good video going of the Maiden Voyage so everyone no mater where they are on Mother Earth can look/learn and get passionate about biochar. Let’s all do it in a responsible fashion and before we know it Shazam Peace on Earth. A big Thankyou to all souls who made this happen and to all souls who want to look after Mother Earth and Mankind : )
I am enraptured to assist this marvelous process. I am avid to learn as much as I can about BioChar so consider me an enthused student and fervent facilitator. I am studying Permaculture Cert3 with ACE in Mullum so I am free any other days devoid of tuesday. 0451260978. let me know your movements.
Great Stu, We could sure use a permi around here we have to set up 2 hectares of Biochar Trial areas for massive food tests,
In return for your permi insights I will personally assist you to become a Charmaster through Biochar Learning Circles and the Bush Mechanics Institute. So good to hear from you Stu I will ring you but just understand out here in the Forest there is no connection so it will be when I go to town once a week : )

I m interested to start contineous biochar making plant from cumin crop agri waste capacity 10M.T./day
Is there a possibility of a mobile adam retort?I have a huge supply of timber to burn, thousands of tonnes, over 7000hectares and wish to make biochar and return it to the soil.
Of course there is : ) I think New England Biochar makes mobile adam retorts.
I am thinking thou you may need more than an adam retort mobile.
think about it 1 ton of char a day or so may take you several life times to get through 7k acres
I am sure there is a way of doing it thou.
i’m looking forward to build and adam retort biochar kiln in my country colombia, can u please send me the simplified detailed of the kiln on how to construct. or if you have some other web page where i can download all the manuals and opetation system. I really appreciate for u time
thank you in advancebest regards
How does one go about getting the plans for this beast?
I am looking to build one in Queensland
It is shocking, to say the least, that Dr. Taylor is the sole licensee for the Adam retort Biochar kilns in Australia. It is the antithesis of humanitarian work. It’s quite audacious also to think that a Dr. is the only one who could add meaningful contributions to the design. If the schematics were made open source, the improvements on the design would be a million fold and in half the time. I’m not sure who this Adam guy is, but he clearly doesn’t get it.
congratulation on putting this together, I was thinking building some retort, after research i found this maybe pretty reasonable, did you have any drawing plan for this or more specification on how to build it.
thank you for sending any information
